The most awaiting announcement from WordPress is out, Yes WordPress released 2.9 beta and said that the final version would be made available by the first end of December if everything goes fine.If you are comfortable with php and want to test the latest version you are free to download the beta version at official website.Earlier we have notified you about the quick updates to the 2.8.5 and 2.8.6 versions.
During the beta phase WordPress team will be concentrating mainly on the new features and fixing the bugs and aims to make 2.9 the bug free version. While Evaluating the beta WordPress will have be coming with an embedded plugin so that the testers will get updates and fixes automatically such that it will keep the bugs update.

i havent upgraded my wp blog to new versions since last 2 updates
actually i dont know perfectly what all steps or wat all backups we need to take.
