Rajesh,
I am rather late to the party, but wanted to take a moment to thank you. I would do the same for your commenters if it were possible!

I am a novice blogger, only two months, and found your tip about NOT leaving thanks or nice post only very helpful. Sounds obvious to most people, and I'm still thrilled as a novice to get such comments. I get quite a few page views but never any comments. However, I see that in general, this would be worse than no comment at all. Furthermore, there are increasing numbers of what I suspect are spambots, that crank out very generically applicable comments to many blogs lately (April 2010). I use the wonderful Akismet, and have not noticed quite so many getting through for Akismet sites, but some Technorati and about.com have many.

Thank you so much too for the advice about not including my blog name with a line of html. I'd wondered why some of my comments seemed to be pulled as spam (they were complimentary and post topic specific), and I even felt a bit hurt. However, I realize that many of those comments may have ended up in the site's spam bin! What a waste, I won't let ignorance cause me to do that again (appreciative nod to you).

Finally, let me leave one small item that I learned: in either the Wordpress or the Akismet documentation, probably the former, I read that any comment that had more than two links in it would autmatically be filtered as spam. I don't recall exact details, but when I was configuring my Wordpress.com blog site, I was provided the choice of disabling that feature. However, Wordpress recommended it on the basis that (2 or more? more than 2, which means 3 or more? I don't remember exactly), had a high likelihood of being a spam-type comment thus the reason for that criteria.

Happy blogging, and congratulations on your one year anniversary, and go on to celebrate many more.

These days 2-3 budding bloggers are commenting on my blog actively but probably coz of awareness they put their blog signature and Akismet out them into spam one.. Anyways.. I'm sure these points will help such commentators and we will some meaning ful comments.

nice points, i really hate those commentators that posts links at the end of their comments, thinking it will make a cool signature but is nothing more than spamming.

However, lately i have seen that the quality of commenting has improved. Perhaps its akisment and bad-behavior kind of plugins that might force the commentators to say a little more than, "nice points :P" but i feel that making good comments is also a habit, once you start making good comments after reading the posts in full, you kind of keep doing it on a regular basis :)

Well, you have managed to bring up yet another good topic which requires discussion I see TechSanta :D In response to the topic posted , I believe that most users are somewhat lazy when it comes to commenting or responding on other blogs/sites . Somehow , we have not only become lazy as a society when it comes to physical activity , but we have also become lazy when it comes to the form of expression . If you will notice , everyone uses acronyms or abbreviations to convey their thoughts - personally : I deplore this . In fact , I have difficulty in trying to decipher what what one implies in using ttyl & rolf , imho etc .. which has somehow become the norm & acceptable amongst internet users . I wish that people would just make an effort to fully write / spell out what they are implying and not use abbreviated terminology . Also , I believe that most users tend to comment only if : someone has commented on their blog /site - and so they do this as a form of reciprocation ( which again is wrong ) ; so they tend to return the favor with a simple : ' Thanx 4 UR comment ' type of response . I hate that . I would like a user to comment based upon their view / opinion, based on the topic posted - not just ' great post ! keep up the good work ! ' what work ? its not as if Im working in a cotton field picking cotton ! :D Give me your opinion , your feedback, your constructive criticism and I will def respond ! If a user posts a simple good post ! & thanks ! , I can openly admit that I will not bother to ever respond to such a user . If one wishes to draw comments and user feedback to their own blogs / sites , then they should be aware that , they must also make the effort of being avid & constructive comment contributors on other blog sites as well . One hand washes the other & both wash the face . Enough said ;) :D

Thank you Raj :D
