Best OpenSource Alternatives For Microsoft Office Applications

openoffice logo open office.orgMicrosoft Office Applications were the market leaders over the years, Microsoft Office Word and Excel were the best and most advanced Word processing & Spreadsheet applications. However, the cost of Microsoft Office suite is extremely high and the small businesses or  individuals may feel it as a burden. So, I am listing the free alternatives of Microsoft Office available in open source, so that you can use them for your business or for your personal use. Earlier we have mentioned about Best Open Source Alternative’s For Adobe PDF Writer

OpenOffice: This is the best alternative available by sun, OpenOffice has extensive plugins to make the usage very simple. It can also be used as PDF Writer. In some regards it is more powerful that MS Office.

AbiWord : AbiWord is very similar application to MS Word, MS Word users wont find much problem in switching over to this application and will certainly love it as  it is one of best powerful free word processor.

Google Docs : Google Docs is the best available online suite and is the best available alternative for the users who have online access. The only constraint would be that you need have connected  to Internet when you use this application.

OpenOffice is the best alternate to MS Office as far as the world knows. But, the primary question which arises here is, Why are people still purchasing MS Office :)

i think openoffice failed to go into the hearts of ppl.. and also they have to concentrate more on interface and spreadsheet.. and also they have to work on docx and xlsx..

Open office has one drawback. Why should I download a 150MB+ setup? They should work to trim it. Moreover lately MSWord has a tiny plug-in which would make it ready for editing/converting word to PDF. Google Docs is good with one limitation: you need be online.

I wont agree with you basant.. it is far better when compared to 450+ mb setup file of MS office.. and more over it comes for free..
